Google, Microsoft, Apple Sued Over Preview Icons

vista%20leopard.JPGTech giants Google, Microsoft, and Apple got an early Christmas present last week when Arizona-based Cygnus Systems sued the companies for infringing on patents covering display icons.

The suit, filed in Arizona District Court, claims that Google’s Chrome browser, Microsoft’s Vista OS and Internet Explorer 8 browser, as well as Apple’s Leopard OS and the iPhone utilize Cygnus-owned icons that show previews of what is contained in those files.

Cygnus was awarded this patent in March 2008, according to the suit. The company wants damages and attorneys’ fees and costs.
